We spent the first few days acclimating and getting ready for the ride on Saturday. Thursday's ride was an adventure, as we got caught in a rain/hail storm at the top of Squaw Pass. As the clouds and rain swooped in around us, a picnic area with an outhouse appeared on our left and we made a dash for shelter! Fortunately, we had cell service and were able to get Sandy to come and rescue us. Otherwise, we would have been in a heap of trouble. We were cold and wet!
On Friday we relaxed, doing some shopping, for gloves and ear warmers! We took a short 20 mi ride north of Boulder CO on Highway 119 and finished out the afternoon cleaning our bikes and getting ready for the epic ride the next day.
Tomorrow, the big ride!
All loaded up and ready to leave for the Mountains!
I picked up my registration packet in Evergreen at Bicycle Outfitters.
I'm ready for the Triple! Not really, now I can get on the course. The registration packet contains your wrist bracelet i.d., helmet sticker, and your Triple Bypass Bike Jersey! It also had a lot neat little complimentary coupons, snacks, and advertisements.
We asked the clerk where a good ride would be.
There were lots of options, but we decided a preview of the first mountain pass was in order. So we decided to take a ride up Squaw Pass. Little did we know of the surprise it held in store for us.
Ready to take on our first big mountain pass!
On our way to the top, it started to rain. We got pretty wet! But we travelled on.
As we got closer to the top, the clouds moved in around us,
and moved on below us.
